The Grey Play- Respect Appreciate Protect Educate (R.A.P.E)

The Grey Play: R.A.P.E (Respect Appreciate Protect Educate) is an original play written and directed by Yayra Tamakloe in collaboration with the Kent State School of Theatre and Dance and the Center for Sexual and Relationship Violence Support Services under the mentorship of Dr. Daniel Nadon and Bryan Chandler. This play addresses the complexities of sexual abuse and directs people to resources to help combat the silent epidemic that haunt many people. The production got awarded the diversity and inclusion grant making me the first non-theatre major to acquire a grant to put on a show in the School of Theatre’s Blackbox series.

I selected this piece to demonstrate my ability to go beyond what is expected of me to innovate and use my art to tell meaningful stories.

For Worse or For Worse (excerpt from The Grey Play)

This video is a single vignette from the original play titled: The Grey Play (Respect Appreciate Protect Educate). This vignette brings to light some of the horrors of abuse that happen in marriages. When sexual abuse and assault is talked about, its occurrences in marriages are not frequently thought of or mentioned. Victims of these usually feel powerless and live under the fear of being stigmatized and for this and many more reasons, they suffer in silence.
