Stop Talking & Give Us Your Bio Human!

👀rolls eyes dramatically

Ami is currently a PhD student and a Deans McNair Fellow at Cornell University studying Anthropology. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from Kent State University in Fashion Design. Through her life experiences, Ami understands first hand the concept of invincibility and lack of accessibility. As such she sees it as a duty to contribute to an equitable world through artistry, leadership, scholarship, advocacy and mentorship.

Ami has competed and placed in the Ms. Africa USA and Ms. Ghana USA Scholarship Pageants in 2019 and 2015 respectively. She is an honoree of the Kent State Women's Center SAGE project, the inaugral recipient for the Rozell Duncan Student Diversity award, a Sillas Purnell and Mary Hogan Scholarship recipient just to mention a few.

As both a visual and Fine artist, Amis work has been to China, South Korea, Scotland and Ghana as well as within the United States. She has showcased her work at the International Youth Design Competition, Costume Society of America, Directed an Original Stage Play, Performed at the Fringe Fest and runs Thoughts & Tea among others.

Ami’s dynamism and multi-artistic nature stems from her belief in non-conformity and the need to center narratives that situate marginalized cultures, stories and people with an emphasis on the stories of women. When working, Ami focuses on the story and the story reciprocates by shaping itself.

“The Story Chooses The Medium”

As a highly melanated, XX-Chromosomed, Queer, Ewe, Ghanaian born American inhabiting human, it is up to me to use my intellect and talents to shape “existing” into narratives that make me visible!”
