Heebie Jeebies (Anxiety 101)
I had never heard the word heebie jeebies until i discovered Rapsody (who i have a SERIOUS crush on not just for her genius in being a lyricist…(did i really start going down that worm hole? LMAO)) Anywho, collecting myself, when i realized the word Heebie Jeebies translated to having some fears or being in the state of anxiety, it made sense that it be the title of this blog post because seriously i think the word could be the very solution. It is such a silly word that i am certain a percentage of people will roll their eyes, snicker or even laugh if they were addressed with it; for a microsecond breaking away the hold anxiety might be having on them in the moment.
Heebie Jeebie might be a silly word, but anxiety is far from a silly condition. Many of us have either heard some one use the word anxiety or even used it ourselves. In what context? i am unsure yet who is to say it is not serious. But lets be honest, sometimes the word gets thrown about so casually that we condition ourselves to brush it off or tell people “you’ll be fine.”
But ANXIETY IS THE DEVIL! When who-knows-what is able to get you mentally feeling unfit and fearful so much so that your body; without your permission, disrespectfully reacts to that state of mind……whheeewwww! Yuhp, that is something that needs talking about.
This disorder falls in the mental health spectrum and even though there are talks on mental health, i believe more could be done about making mental health especially for underrepresented populations an easy conversation to have. It is not our fault that we have been given the shorter end of the stick by being (oh i hate this word) “minority” (which by the way was coined by the oppressor to oppress a population!!!!!) and with that, having our needs made secondary, if not tertiary to others. (we will go on that rant very soon!)
No one can fix what they think is not broken and we can only recognize cracks, splinters and breakages for what they are when we are aware of what the above listed look like. Anxiety is real! PERIOD! Anxiety is the fear of the unknown and RIGHT NOW, our world is in the middle of the unknown ocean which means anxiety levels are bound to spike!
In the underlying podcast, we are educated by Dr. Angela Neal-Barnett, a professor at Kent State University’s department of Psychological Sciences on anxiety. It is my hope that we all pick a dime of knowledge from this discussion while we do the needful on our parts to manage the temporary crisis that the world currently faces.
BUT SERIOUSLY, Please wash your d*mn hands, sanitize, do not touch stuff you should not be touching and sit your derriere at home!!! (all out of love).
