Hello lovlies… Its your girl T’ (coughs)… me! lmao! It is soo good to have you all here with me this week and if you would like to know, I am excited to be alive. I know things are crazy right now but I want you to step back, inhale and let out a BIG exhale! YOU MADE IT TO THE WEEKEND! You deserve to breathe!
Again thank you for joining me on the second part of “Da Young Adult” episode of our Men Series. Last time we met, these men educated us quite a bit. But we had such an extensive conversation I had to split it into two episodes so here we are.
Before I give spoilers on this weeks episode, I would like to reiterate something I started the podcast with. As a Black woman, when I think of the Black Lives Matter movement, I do not limit it to Blacks in America alone. I think “BLACK LIVES EVERYWHERE MATTER”. Regardless of the location, Black people get the short end of the stick. Periodt!
Now I do not know how many of you are abreast with international news especially with the happenings in the Pan-African communities but the government of Ghana just helped hundreds of girls domestic workers vacate Lebanon. If you are unaware of this story, their story is of modern day slavery. They travel to look for greener pastures and sometimes they are lied to only to be bound to “employers” (I call them are slave owners) who abuse them physically, mentally, emotionally, sexually and sometimes even murder them. Currently, Zimbabwe is also going through a tough time and how many of us Black people outside these countries or the continent are even aware of these happenings?
Naomi Campbell is by far the only influential person I know of who posted something about the plight of these domestic workers; who are essentially modern day slaves. Guys, colorism is a THING. Why does the color of our skin have to subject us to less humane treatments by other people who bleed just like us. But who can we blame? If we stay unaware of what happens to the Black community on the global scale, how to we expect the community to thrive? We were able to see how unified we can be on a global scale when Covid hit and there were few distractions.
Stay WOKE my lovelies. Tune into the things that affect the growth and development of the Black community globally and if things don’t sit right, let’s fix it… TOGETHER. It breaks my heart to know how little we know of each others woes but that can change. The recent happenings have proven it. We just have to give two shits and look out for our brothers and sisters across the globe.
Anywho, rant session over. Our men are waiting to continue with their education so let’s be an attentive audience and hear them. I love you all, stay safe, stay alive, stay fighting and stay woke! Amandla (means power)!!!
