When Ananse’s mother in law passes away, he feels the need to show off at the funeral as the most bereaved by deciding not to eat. This unrealistic expectation Ananse sets for himself causes him to self-sabotage.

That’s what can happen when we bite more we can chew. We are all great at different things so it is okay to not be the best at everything.

The world needs to find Ananse and reprimand him seriously because he is the reason wisdom is not evenly distributed in this world.

When he decided to hoard all the wisdom for himself only to realize he left some with his son, he makes a drastic decision which affects how wise people become.

He is the reason some people are wise and others are somewhat foolish.

Tortoise & the Magic Drum

Tortoise, the laziest and most self pitying animal swindles a magic drum from the king after his wife accidentally eats tortoises'fruit.

Tortoise uses the Magic food producing drum to feed only his family, leaving the rest of the kingdom to go hungry.

He however runs out of luck because there was a small detail about the drum he missed. :)

The Singing Tortoise

When a hunter goes into the forest and hears a beautiful sound coming from afar only to realize it is a singing tortoise. Taken aback by the music, he begs the tortoise to go home with him and become his personal musician. Tortoise agrees but on one condition. The hunter breaks the deal by violating the condition and he pays the price.

The Nosy Tortoise

In this Nigerian folklore, we are told a version of how the tortoise ended up with cracks in his shell. When a famine hits, all but the dog offer up their mothers as food to the bigger animals in exchange for their lives. Messed up right? Well tortoise finds our dogs’ secret and he makes a decision which he pays for dearly.

This Caribbean tale from Tobago told by Dwayne White Jr, talks about Gang Gang Sarah and how she ended up in Tobago from Africa. Gang Gang Sarah was a healer from Africa who was blown into Tobago, fell in love and enjoyed the culture of Tobago. When time for her to go back home, she could not and that's because the foods she ate had too much salt. Haha. So guys, ALWAYS moderate your salt intake. :)

In this Wolof folktale told by Prof. Babacar Mbaye, an old man; for whatever reason, decides to take walk at a rather odd time. Everything goes well until he hears voices as he walks past the cemetary. What he hears turns his feet into the wind. Enjoy!

Buki Gets A Beating

Our story today comes from the Wolof people in Senegal and it is about Buki the Hyena. Well when his nephew the hare finds a visually impaired family eating in a gaint baobab tree, he joins the family in their meal _ though unwelcomed_ and does not get caught. Hare shares this information with his Uncle Buki the Hyena but his impatient self gets him the beating of his life. Enjoy
